    Question Bowl Size/Hides Question

I have my BP in a 20 gal long tank.

    1. Is it best to downsize the water bowl so I can fit a hide on each side of it for the warm and cool side? If so, what size do you all use? The water bowl is a ceramic dog bowl dish. I'm thinking maybe he doesn't need that big of one?! I know two hides are best which is why I am trying to fit everything in. He seems to enjoy curling up and putting is head on the edge of the dish though even without a hide there on the cool side.

    2. If I do switch out everything then would it be too much stress on him right now? He had two successful feeds in a row for me but has denied the last two. It's been 14 days now since he last ate. He is a 3 to 3.5 ft BP and about 2.8 lbs (too tired to convert to grams tonight lol). Should I get him to feed first and then switcheroo?

    3. What size/type of hides would you recommend for his size? I looked at some terra cotta plant holders/plates today but they seemed awfully low for him?! Everything I look at seems too tall or too short.

    Re: Bowl Size/Hides Question

Two hides are more important than water bowl size in my opinion.
Your snake should barely fit into the hide. It should be very snug.

The food refusal is probably due to not having two appropriately sized hides. My snakes like to use their hides as hats. Their body falls out of them but they still go under them.

    What is his hotside hide?

    Re: Bowl Size/Hides Question

Hmm so maybe since they don't mind the hat effect I should get the terra cotta plant pots or plate bottoms. Anyone know which they like best out the two?

I am currently using a half log (hanging head down in shame) with vines covering both sides. However, on the bright side I truly have been shopping for something else since learning the logs aren't good.

So once I get the two matching hides and a smaller bowl, would it be best to let him re-settle in again for a couple days before I handle him or attempt to feed him again?

Thank you so much for you help and input!

    Re: Bowl Size/Hides Question

Okay Kaorte, I took your advice and went out shopping again today for new hides. I actually found 2 plastic ones. It took a bit of cutting and some flames but they are both now perfect and identical I also got a smaller water bowl. Tanveer doesn't soak anyway so I'm sure he won't mind LOL.

Now, am I right in guessing that he may be restless the next couple days since I will be completely redoing his tank tonight?! So I should probably go back to not handling him and just let him settle in again? (Plus I think I read somewhere here not to handle him till he stops refusing food). Please correct me if I'm wrong

The offer little security to the bp. Bp's prefer being surrounded on all sides with just a tiny opening. I would suggest getting a cave hide.
