I have a 20g long tank and am wondering how deep you all recommend the substrate be? I hope that makes sense

I have basically just enough, maybe a tad more, to cover the bottom of the tank and I'm using Repti-Bark. I have never owned a snake before though so I am not sure how much I should be adding for my BP.
