    Where to buy a scale?

My snake is missing a few...

    Kidding.

Does anyone know where I can get a cheap digital scale to measure my snake and its food? I've tried searching, but searching "scale" on a snake forum doesn't do too much good.

    Thanks!

Just a suggestion - I bought mine at Walmart in the kitchen section. It weighs in grams and comes with a bowl for when they are small. It was about $20

Cool thanks! I'm going to try Target since they are closer, but if not Walmart is a good place to check.

Not meaning to thread jack here, but I will be getting my first ball this weekend and was curious as to the uses of scales. I know you should keep track of your snakes weight and its prey's weight but, are there other reasons? Also, how often should you be checking the snakes weight?

Re: Where to buy a scale?

Weight is the best way to record your snakes growth since it is near impossible to get a correct length measurement. I weigh my snakes the day before I feed them (on "empty").

Also, I weigh out their food. I feed 10-15% of the snakes body weight. It takes the guesswork out of picking a prey item.

So I need to feed my 1200g bp 200-240g of mice every week? That's six adult mice! I never understood that.

Well normally people feed their adults rats. But I think a 200g rat would be a good meal. I don't really know though since I don't have any snakes that big yet.

She's about as big around as a medium rat (about 100g I think), and she was scared of those. She's being a poop lately.

EBAY has a lot of scales, getting one that measures grams and pounds works great, grams for the snakes and pounds for shipping pkgs.
