    Good breeding photo I think

    Hi,

    Didn't cool the corns last winter as I am not to bothered if they take a year or two off after last years slug fest.

    But curiosity got the better of me so I put them together while I cleaned the cage;

    Anyone know offhand how large males have to be to breed? If no one wants the little male from last year I might be tempted to hold onto him and run him past mum for a chance at more amels.

    But if it is going to take two years I probably won't be able to spare the space that long.

    He only weighs 37g so it's not like it will be this year or anything - just wanted to get a minumum weight to se if next year was possible.

    I had a male breed at 90g. The female laid 13 eggs and only one went bad. I normally like to wait until 150g-200g though.

    Looks pretty painful to me. Ouch! But I'm a woman, so I really don't understand the flexibility of the other side. hmmm.

    They can and will breed at just 18 months of age and he looks like he has the correct idea going on in the pic .

    Yeah, they can breed as young as a year and less than 100g, but fertility is often reduced (though not always). I aim for 150g+ for males, usually 200g+.

    And as you found out, corns are opportunistic breeders!! I've found that often just the natural changes in the temperature during the winter can and will easily trigger them to want to breed, even if you didn't brumate them. Good luck with that pair!

    Hello,
    How about females? How old and what weight for them to be bred? Thanks.
