Post-shed question...

The first shed Atticus went through with me was a bad one and although most of it has fallen off, there are still leftovers close to his head. Should I still apply the method that is currently stickied at the top of the page or should I try something different? He is particularly head shy in most cases and every once and a great while he isn't, so I didn't want to facilitate his shyness by trying to remove the shed with a washcloth or with my fingers.

I let mine swim/soak in the bath tub with about 3 inches or so of tepid water I use the wash colth then to rub the shed off even my head shy female lets me get her head after she settles down and relaxes in the water.

If you try it, and your snake doesn't want his head touched, I would recommend that you do not try to force the issue. Just the soak may loosen the skin enough he will get it off by himself.

Another alternative would be to put the snake in a pillowcase dampened with warm water, then leave it in a warm place (the warm side of its enclosure would work) for a while. The moisture combined with the gentle friction while the snake moves around in the pillowcase will often remove stuck shed.
