Had my first escape last night.

I was so sure I had everything in a way that she wasn't able to get out. She tries every night and I've had her for three months so I was sure my bases were covered, but it appears they were not!!!

I was doing my regular viv check (I check constantly all day long, a bit of a habit now) and as I got to the bottom of the stairs my biggest kitty came running out of my room, like he would if I was about to catch him doing something wrong. I said to my g\f "Man I always worry when they run like that, I'm always worried Nazgul has gotten out and they're running because they don't want to be caught over the carcass" not realizing that as soon as I checked to see how she was doing (because it was 10:30 and she's normally out hanging out on her branch) I was about to have my biggest fear come to life.

I immediately realized there was something wrong because my temp gun and my water bottle where not on the top of the cage where I always have them. I immediately began tearing my room apart My g\f and I were almost frantic. I was so worried my kitties had gotten to her already. I went back up stairs and told my roommate she was out and he started checking his room. I was sure she was still in my room however because I check on her almost hourly and I had just seen her in her hide. After about twenty minutes of searching we find her in my roommates room under the stairs in the closet. She was so much further than I would have imagined she would have gotten. It was so relieving I would have been devastated to have lost her.

Needless to say I now have 40lbs of weights on her Plexiglas lid to make sure this wont happen again.

Heres to finding lost friends Cheers!!!

Glad you found her, I had a similar incident a few weeks back. One of my het pied girls escaped from my rack (one of my kids left her tub open just an inch or so and she squeezed out) and was under my son's bed. I saw our cat run like a bat out of hell out from under the bed and sure enough, there she was. She was striking at anything that moved so I was pretty sure the cat had been harrassing her pretty good. After covering her up, I was able to calm her down and get her back into her tub. Needless to say, I know exactly how you felt and it is not a good feeling.

So glad that you found her!! I've been there too. It feels so much better when they show up.

Re: Had my first escape last night.

I had an escape years ago, I tore apart everything and couldnt find him. It was summer and I eventually gave up figuring he got out an open window or something. I even cleaned out the cage and put it away. 3 months later I walked into the living room and bam there he was just chillin in the corner. He almost seemed relieved to see me, he was super thirsty and very hungry.

What kind of tank do you have her in? The whole plexi-glass lid thing is throwing me off....

People get plexi-glass custom cut to sit on top of a screen lid to aid in keeping humidity in the tank.

This is exactly right. I got some 1/2 inch plexiglas from Lowes here in town, cut it to fit my glass aquarium and drilled a dozen or so holes in the top. My tank is 55 gallons so I needed a good way to help keep humidity in. Now that I have it cut into halves the humidity is absolutely perfect with my waterfall in the half I have Nazgul in.

So you have a wire mesh lid that can be clipped down as well as the plexi over top of this?

that was close. Id be waiting for it to come out of the toilet one day.

I fasten the lid, snaps and straps. It would take me a long time to push my way out of it.

    Good no one got hurt.

No I have just two sheets of 1/2inch Plexiglas over the top of my tank. One for each side. On the side with my CHE I have a hole cut in the center of the sheet and screen over the hole. So the opening is covered completely but the heat is still making its way into the tank.
