    Clarification on 3rd winter rule

Clarification needed. The "rule" that says females are ready after third winter... does that mean they are ready on third winter or after third winter?

For example... a hatchling that is born in April of 08....

winter of 08 would be #1
winter of 09 would be #2
winter of 10 would be #3
winter of 11 would be #4

Assuming they are close to appropriate breeding weight (1200 - 1500 grams) in October of winter #3 would you breed it that winter? Or is the rule saying you should wait for breeding season in winter #4?

    Thanks.

Re: Clarification on 3rd winter rule

I think the 3rd winter rule would say she is good at #3 or 2010, as long as her weight is good.
What are these mojavas I keep hearing so much about?

Re: Clarification on 3rd winter rule

A hatchling born sping of 08 I wounld expect to go untill the fall of 2010 depending on their size and eating habits.

That 2008 winter 2009 winter and breeding in 2010 the third winter. Some ay go sooner som may go later..

There would be nothing wrong with waiting till the 2011 fall..In fact you may find that you get better and bigger clutches form older 4-5-6 year old virgin females.

I have it on first hand that a breeder is waiting till their 4th or 5th winter and getting 12-14 eggs..EVERY YEAR from them.

I would agree with Jake on that one... But it again depends on the animal (as always)
