Cottonmouths have a reputation of being aggressive, but IMO they're really not.
With my limited experience I've only had a handful strike at me, out of the few dozens I've worked with. Most try to get away and less than 50% even gape.
Compared to water snakes these guys are puppy dog tame, they're not worthy of their reputation.

Yup...i heard water snakes are more agressive and even seen youtube videos where you cant even handle them....without getting bit...

Did not strike at me once. I moved it off the road with my tongs and it just stayed curled up in the strike position the entire time. Not always the case but this one wasn't that fussy. It was not even two feet long so it was still young....and younger animals always tend to be a bit more defensive.

You can always handle them without getting bit 
Just gotta be good.
I've only been bitten twice by water snakes and they were both snakes. I always use a hook and try not to get bit for practice with venomous snakes, which are never as aggressive.
