You can use bungee cords or clamps or depending on the type of lid you can use the largest size of those metal black binder clips.

you can also drill holes through lid and tub and use twist ties (a pain if you're accessing frequently).

i use sterilites to transport my giants, i have 10 holes in each with 14g wire ties twisted to hold them closed. however, you might want to be safer than sorry; one got out even with the ties, and decided my bed would be her hide for awhile, and wouldn't have it anyother way (got the marks to prove it, lol).

there are also tubs that have clamping sides, wich are more expensive and much more rugged than the common storage tubs. these are preferable if you have no racks; 2-3$ more per tub gives you the security of KNOWING your animals are still there.

I like to use regular binder clips to secure my tubs. They're relatively cheap and come in many size. For 32qt tubs I use 2-3 clips per side.

You can drill holes through the lip of the tub and the cover and use small bolts with wingnuts to hold the cover on.
