Candoia (Solomon Island Ground Boas) Thread
Not long after joining BPnet, I did a quick search on "candoia" to see what it turned up. Let me just say that I am very jealous of my American counterparts. You have access to some amazing specimens!
I'm sure that any photos posted here will bring me to tears, but I'd like to go forward with it anyway! Candoia keepers are so few and far between (in the States too I would imagine), so please tell me all about your Solomon Island Ground Boas and any other Candoia you have, how you get into them, if you've had breeding success etc.

Solly and Poirot. Unfortunately, Solly passed 19 stillborn babies a few weeks ago. Heartbreaking, but she seems to be doing well, so I am thankful for that.

Love that face
I have a few more that I don't have photos of. My non-reptile-guy husband bought Solly a couple years ago at a local petstore. Hefty pricetag, and she developped a rectal prolapse a few months later (fixed not long after, of course), but she is now my favourite girl.

Beautiful girl there I love their faces too, they're at once cartoonish and prehistoric. Here's a shot of mine:

I was originally going to get a pair of crested geckos, but then I started looking into semi-arboreal snakes (I've wanted a snake for many years now). I didn't have any luck, but my sister found me this little guy and I snatched him up the day that I saw him. I may be lucky in that he's a ready feeder, and he's a real easy handler as well. Now that he seems to trust me some it's not such a chore to pick him up out of his vivarium.
Finding good sources for these snakes is like pulling teeth; I have a few Web links, but no books or magazines, though Candoia are mentioned in a snake ID guide I have.

Re: Candoia (Solomon Island Ground Boas) Thread
Got mine from AA reptiles
She is a beauty. I still have her feeding on frogs. Im not going to make the switch to mice till shes 2 times bigger. SIGB's are very very calm snakes, they don't move around a lot but they are awesome. Very calm when handling.
Get one!
They are fairly easy to take care of if you have access to small frogs (for neonates). They prefer cooler temps than all of my snakes. Mine spends most of her time off the heatpad. They require around 78-82 degrees for a hotspot, and the ambient in my cage is 80 so I almost don't need a heatpad at times.
They also have very slow metabolisms so adults only require being fed about two times a month. I feed my neonate every week though.

Patrick, you aren't allowed to post those anymore. They make me want to cry!
Lovely snakes everyone.
I have a website - www.candoia.ca - I'd appreciate any input should anyone care to thread through it.

Thats your site?! I have it bookmarked, very informative and helpful. I read through the whole thing before I purchased my neonate.

Really? That's so cool! I am so pleased to know that it is helpful and useful by fellow candoia lovers.
Although I may have to re-think saying that they are calm. I have one who is nuts. She flattens out and strikes like mad if you merely glance at her. I am hoping that once I get her into a front-opening cage, she will calm down or at least be easier to handle. I haven't even gotten her to stand still long enough to take a photo of anything but teeth.
