    Just ordered PAM, now what?

I was holding one of my snakes about 30 mins. ago and my wife noticed little white things crawling on his head, so I'm wondering if they're mites. Assuming they are, I just ordered PAM and now am wondering what do I do in the meantime? Thanks

You can go get some Reptile Relief from your local Petco or Petsmart. Follow the directions on the bottle, you could also use it to wash the enclosure out until the PAM arrives.

Thanks, now my next question, how the hell did they get there? I picked up a BP from a show about 2 mos. ago but haven't noticed the mites to just now. The only thing my snakes share is the soaking tub which I clean after each snake.

Also, the guy with the mites hasn't eaten in over a month because he's been on Amikacin for a nasty, nasty infection.

They're white? Mites are usually black. Are you keeping him on Cypress Mulch or another wood type bedding?

Re: Just ordered PAM, now what?

Could be some kind of wood mite that came in with the bedding. Whenever I used Aspen, I always dumped it into a plastic tub and gave it a few good sprays of the PAM, fluffed it, sprayed again and closed it.

You might try doing that when the PAM arrives, at least treat all your snakes enclosures when it shows up. Until then the Reptile Relief should suffice.

I MAY be wrong, but white little bugs sound more like wood mites, and I don't THINK pose a threat to snakes. A nucense none the less though.

They COULD be something that came in on your newest addition, but again, I think they're wood mites.

You may consider switching to newspaper until the PAM shows up.

Sorry to ramble, hope you get this squared away.

    Trevor

Re: Just ordered PAM, now what?

sorry its been so long getting back to you, it just got hot here and I'm in HVAC field...

So I'm waiting for PAM in the meantime I did what you suggested and switched out all their bedding.

Funny how I've been using the aspen for 2 months and now am just noticing these little f'ers

I'll soak all their water bowls and tubs and then them. Tell me what are the dangers of mites? Thanks for your help, you've been awesome.
