Updates - some weird stuff going on...
I've had my adult BP, Cu, for over a year now and she has always been a picky eater. This winter she fasted for 4 months. She won't take f/t. She refuses food for no reason.
But the strangest thing has been happening... during her fast, I offered mice and rats; she's eaten rats for the entire time she's been with me, but they can be weird and switch preferences. So, when she finally ate, it was the mouse she took, so I have been feeding her mice. Last week, I put the mouse in and turned around to sit on my couch (right next to her tub) and settle down for a long wait. I heard a little noise, and I turned around and the mouse was gone! Sure enough, I saw her eating it in her hide. Then, today, I gave her another mouse. This time, I blinked, heard the little scuffling noise, opened my eyes, and the mouse was gone. I am getting kind of scared. She has always taken at least ten minutes to inspect the prey before she deems it appropriate to eat. And now, out of the blue, she has such an appetite! Really weird. But hey, no complaints here! Maybe she'll start taking f/t! I would be ecstatic!!!
As for other updates... she went in for her 3rd injection of RI meds (hmm, maybe that's what's causing this sudden appetite?) on Thursday. It's been a month now, and she still has some bubbles around her mouth, but not as much as she did before. The vet thinks this dose should do it. Hopefully. But if all the bubbles and wheezing isn't gone by the end of next week, I'll bring her back in.
So, in short, I am one happy mom! My anorexic girl has noticed that she is hungry (very hungry, by the looks of it), and she is just about over her RI. Yaaaaay!

I'm glad to hear she's doing better, but I am concerned that she still has bubbles after a month on abt's, What abt is she getting, I ask only because after a month you should have seen marked improvement.

I'm not sure what it's called; it's an injection she's been getting every 2 weeks. Yes, it has been a slow recovery, but when the vet looked in her mouth, there was about 1/4 of the amount of mucous she had last month... so, she is getting a bit better. I thought she might have parasites that brought her immune system down, but she's eating. Anyways, I'm bringing in a fecal sample (when I get one) to be sure.

You may wish to listen to the episode on http://www.blogtalkradio.com/reptileradio with Dr. Scott Stahl. He specifically addresses RI's and how if you've not seen improvement after a certain amount of time, it's time to consider a different course of treatment. You may even want to direct your vet to it. Dr. Stahl is considered the leading herp vet in the world.

I would definitely look into a different treatment, or perhaps just more frequent shots are needed.
The fact that she is eating again is a good sign, and may give her a little extra strength to fight off the infection. However, it is important to be sure it is all the way gone before you stop treatment.

This is weird... she ate again today (2 per week since they are about half the size of her usual rat). Who is this snake and what did she do with my girl???
