a good dog food is fine, and can be your only food generation to generation with no issues. the mice and rats i have have been on dog food for many generations, as the breeder has followed the same guidelines for several years.

i feed mine marksman dog food.

The size of the prey depends on the size of the snake. I feed as small as mouse hoppers for hatchlings and as large as small medium rats for adults.

Here's an excellent mix of food for the rodents:

We have a great section lower down for care of feeders further down in the forum!

From my own experience, mice don't do well on dog food. If a good quality rodent chow isn't possible, bird feed would probably be better. Even a good quality multigrain cereal would be better than dog food. A low protein dog food is good for rats though.

Re: I have questions on live prey

I feed all my rodants from mice to ASF's Muzuri 6F and have for years. As for what I feed the snakes themselves.

I try to steer clear of mice if I can (only because I can't breed them and they cost me an arm and a leg) I feed nothing larger than a small rat every 5-7 days depending on the snake and the size feeder they are eating.
