Quick question about my ASF breeders...
I've read that males will breed females again shortly after they give birth. One of my ASF females had babies today, but I don't want her bred for at least a week. If I remove him for a week will they except him back into the colony next week?

Re: Quick question about my ASF breeders...
Yes it can happen, I just weaned off 3 sets of 3 wk olds, and out of the 3 mommies only 1 looks to deliver any time soon the others don't even look pregnant, no do not remove him they may rip him a new one when you introduced him again. It's not like regular rats.

No, you cannot take him out and try to reintroduce him later. Yes, she is likely pregnant again.

why don't you want her to produce again right away? don't worry about her health... she will be fine. It is what their bodies are made for!

I was just wanting to give her a short break in between litters. I know a week isn't much, but a week in the life of an ASF would be like a summer vacation.

Yeah, they don't get breaks. It is not natural for them and does much more harm then good.

ASF's go into heat right after they give birth, after that, they do not go back into heat until after the litter is weaned.
