Re: lots of carpets... collection pics DUW
I've got a question. Where's my coastal jag!
great stuff Colin. You know I love yellow! So pic 4 gets my vote. Even though the HUGE jag is sweet!

Re: lots of carpets... collection pics DUW
thanks guys, let's just say i enjoy the subtleties of earth tones.
david, that jag is gravid so maybe later this year you will get your wish...
and, i bred her with #4, so if i get good eggs, you get the best of both worlds.
btw, #4 is not a jungle... he is an anomoly from a jag sib x jag sib pairing from some animals imported right from the founder jag breeder.

Colin, can you explain what jag sibs are? I know Jags are a coastal morph, but what are the "sibs"?

Re: lots of carpets... collection pics DUW
if you breed a jag(I think dominant morph? I'm not up to snuff on carpet morphs) to a normal, any normals produced from that pairing are sibs I believe. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: lots of carpets... collection pics DUW
well, it's a whole big can of worms, but here's a breakdown.
there is some debate as to whether the jag lines were pure, or if they were, whether they stayed pure or not before they started getting exported out of norway.
jag sibs, which are the normal appearing offspring in a jag breeding tend to have a different looks to them that most other carpets - pure or cross. there are different theories, but the bottom line is that they are probably nothing special... BUT, a select few people have bred two normal sibs together and gotten some crazy animals out of the pairings. these types of pairings will be repeated many more times in the coming years, so there may be some crazy results, or they may be more typical... we'll see. i don't want to get into what may or may not be there right now.
anyway, about 25% of the clutch that this guy came from turned out yellow instead of like a more classic coastal... and this one is the nicest one i've seen. he was the lightest as a baby, and has the most unique pastel yellow i've ever seen in a carpet - normal or jag. the pics don't do him justice... you have to see him in natural sunlight. keep in mind he is 4 years old - most carpets do not look this good at this age.
anyway... probably just confused you more.
