    Feeding question

I had my first regurge last night with my carpet python. He's been eating medium rats for the past 3 weeks (Once a week). Yesterday I didn't have any medium size to feed him so I decided to go with 2 smalls (I'm waiting on my order from rodent pro). He took the first one no problem as I laid it in the cage he grabbed it and ate it. about 10-15 mins later I laid the second rat in the cage and had to leave to go to work.

I came home from work and it looks like he took the second one then regurged them both. They both were wet with what looked like saliva around them. So I am sure he regurged both.

My question is after a regurge how many days or so should I wait before i attempt to feed him again?

You should wait at least a week.

Also, is there anything else I need to watch out for or keep an eye on after a regurge? Like healthwise or not?

    Re: Feeding question

I'll start off by saying I'm not vet.

Regurge can become a habit. A snake does not build stomach acid as quickly as we do and theirs is much more potent (we can't digest bones!) I would wait a minimum of two weeks before feeding a smaller meal (one small rat). On a bit of a side note, carpets are prone to obesity and feeding a medium rat is probably fine every week, but I usually suggest every 14 days or so. That's just some food for thought.

a healthy carpet will seldom, if ever, regurgitate. i'd look for any obvious health problems and i would open the mouth and look for mouth rot/excessive saliva that could indicate RI or some sort of bacterial infection.

Ive had him since just after the 14th of feb this year. he was given a clean bill of health by a reputable reptile vet and the reptile rehab specialist i volunteer with. I remember that the for the first month I had him he wouldn't eat. So I had him checked out again and again was told he is fine. then he started eating. he eat one week then refused the next well then ate 2 consecutive weeks. Then this.... I found it odd he regurged BOTH, not just one, but BOTH. There was a 10-15 min gap between him eating the first one and then taking the second one.

The other thing I am getting concerned with is in the 2 months I have had him and the three times he ate he still has not went poop yet. He Looks like hes gonne pop anytime now but still hasnt
