Pet Store blows HR 669 off
I was shocked when I went to buy my rats today and was talking to the manager at my local Pet Supplies Plus. The sales associates asked him if he had heard about it and he calmly responded yes...he then went on to say that it didn't have a chance and that it was nothing to be worried about. I told him that I thought the bill would be killed as well, but that I had also been sending daily e-mails for the past week. This is when he said that it was unnecessary and I was wasting my time. If there was another good pet store locally that I could buy my rats from, I would never step inside that place again. As many birds, fish, reptiles and little fuzzy things as they have in there, it seemed as though they just didn't care about the bill.

That's incredible. Even though they don't think it'll pass, they should still be making their customers aware! My reptile house has fliers and has been handing them out to everyone who sets foot in the store. It has the sites and how to do your part to stop this bill. I figured almost everyone was doing this...

If it was a chain store you have to remember they don't care about reptiles. The figures are on here some where. About 80 times the amount of people own cats and dogs as opposed to reptiles. You buy 10 mice for your snakes a week. That's roughly between 20 and 30 bucks. A guy with one dog buts a 50 dollar bag of food every 2 week. Even though you spend more, more people have dogs and cats. So there real profit is from the people spending a ton on dog chow.
Some people are going to stand up and do their part. I commend those. I feel as though I've done my part except sending the letters.

We'll take care of that at the Birmingham show!

I've still gotta send my letters, but I almost gave up trying to convince the local pet stores about this bill, none of them seem to really care it's all about the dog & cat owners who spend the most money. My argument is it starts with the smaller pets, but we will eventually start seeing proposed bans on dog breeds (more than there already are...)

It is discouraging when you get reactions like that! I got one today that briefly had me really down. But it also reminded me that there are lots of people that SHOULD be doing there part, but aren't, and that makes it even more important that we all do everything we can.
Good for you for trying! Keep up the good work!
