Non-breeding corn layed eggs......

Hi. My lavender corn laid 4 eggs a few days ago. She hasn't been bred and hasn't had the chance to accidentally breed. She's WAY too small to be doing this. She looks like crap now. Is this a pretty normal thing? Does this mean she'll keep doing it? Is there a way I can make it stop, or at least help her out so she doesn't look like she's being starved after she lays? I've looked around for information, but I can't seem to find anything. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well did you just recently buy her? If so maybe she was bred by the Other owner.Can you see any veins in the eggs? Some corn snakes can retain sperm and double or triple clutch just from one breeding(it happened to one of my corns).Just so you know they can bred at just 18 months old.I would offer her food and get her back to her weight.

I've had her for 2 years, so she doesn't have any retained sperm.......nor any sperm at all for that matter. I know what to do to get her back up to weight, but does anybody know if there's any way to stop this from happening again? I guess I'll just have to feed her more during breeding season so, if she does do this again, she won't look like she's being starved after she lays. Geeze I hope she doesn't do it again. It's stressful for the both of us.

It can happen, though not often. Sometimes the season triggers them to produce eggs, even if they weren't bred. If she truly wasn't bred, then they are slugs, or not fertile. Just keep feeding her to get her back to weight and all will be OK.

Thanks. I'll be feeding her a double meal for a little while and hope she doesn't do it again. This is why I don't breed my snakes. I'm not ready and it really stresses me out....lol. Thanks again.

You may not be ready but she obviously is. Feed the heck out of her this year, get a boyfriend for her, and you'll have bundles of fun with babies next year.

Make sure you don't over feed her though. I would maybe just feed a little more frequently until she gets her weight back. i.e. instead of every 7 days, every 5 days.

you could always try to incubate the eggs. the likley hood of them being fertile is very slim, but there is something called Parthenogenesis. It is reproduction without mating and has been recorded in several snake species. The more common species for occurence are burmese, but it could possibly happen. just a little heads up and info.

Stressful? Yes. Fun......maybe, but probably not going to happen at least for a while. I'd rather live vicariously through other snake breeders. lol

Thanks. That actually sounds like a better idea since she's a picky eater anyway. It takes forever just to get her to eat 1 mouse.

I could have, but I don't own an incubator and they were collapsed and yellow when I found them.

She just shed and pooed today, so at least she's doing well. I just need to get her fattened up again and she'll be back to her spastic self....lol. Thanks everybody.
