We seem to be doing a great job organizing and uniting ourselves to email, call and write letters to our representatives and members of the committee, but what about the groups behind these baffling proposals? I haven't looked too deeply into it, but I'm sure that it's groups like PETA and the Humane Society, who have a lot of money and powerful lobbies, who are the strongest proponents of these bills.

The thing is, we, the true lovers of animals, are the ones who fund them! I think that this should be addressed and brought into the light a little. We need to realize and get the word out that some "Animal rights" organizations have agendas that go against almost everything we, as animal lovers and responsible pet owners believe in. We need to let them know, in huge numbers, that these attacks on our freedoms as pet owners, breeders, supply resellers, etc. will not stand, and that we will all be finding better organizations to fund, such as PIJAK and USARK. We try to do the right thing by donating to organizations that are supposed to support one thing, but who's main agendas are the exact opposite of what we are giving them our money to support.

In the past, I have donated to the Red Cross on multiple occasions, but after seeing the way they handled Katrina, giving out free credit cards to a huge number of people who blew the funds on $600 designer handbags, I decided I was done giving my very limited hard earned money for such uses, and I wrote them a letter saying so. In that case it was a shame that a hand full of people blew it for everyone, but it was completely irresponsible for them to hand out hundreds of thousands of dollars of our donated money like that, instead of using it for necessities like housing, food and reconstruction. I think that our current situation is a much easier decision for us to make. It is a shame, but maybe there are members here who can point us to some of the smaller, no kill, no pet ban agenda organizations for us to support, so we can do what we can to help abandoned pets, while not giving our money away to people who are going to use it to attack us. And once we make that decision, send letters to the "pet friendly" organizations who are attacking us, and explain that we are done supporting them with our hard earned money.

Great post Jake, I definitely hadn't thought about it like that. I would never ever support PETA, but before this the USHS was an organization I had considered giving to.

USHS should not be confused with HSUS. The Humane Society doesn't care what you own, as long as you take care of it.

"The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is any of a number of animal welfare organizations whose operations include protecting and providing shelter to animals in danger. The SPCAs are non-profit organizations that campaign for animal welfare and take in abused or abandoned animals, and help them to get adopted.The S.P.C.A. is a group that helps protects sick and injured stray animals and animals in danger."

Thanks for the info. I was hoping someone who knows more about some of these groups than I do would step up and help separate the good guys from the bad guys. I just know that there are a few strong bad guys out there that need to be called out and who need to see a huge decline in volunteer and financial support.
