Scale Rot

My 3yr albino burmese python developed scale rot on few different areals on it's belly (only a few scales area) I have addressed the conditions which I think led to this, and I've been treating it with triple antibiotic for 3 weeks now, but it doesn't seem to go away. It has gotten slightly worse since I first observed the condition. Please advice what's the best treatment for this? also the skin on his belly has began to peel on the edges of the ventral scales since he climbes a lot in his vission cage.

Try not to let him climb especially if he has branches or anything. Soak him in a betadine solution in a rubbermaid tub I put the rubbermaids in my bathtub so when im done I can just flip it and let the water drain and when he sheds the scale rot should be gone if its not in a serious condition yet. Usually scale rot is from laying on a nasty substrate for to long or very wet conditions just make sure you disinfect your enclosure really good! You can pick up betadine at your local walmart.

I soak mine for about 30 minutes. When mine have scale infections or anything of that nature I do it once a night until its gone. Which is usually its next shed.

But what I do is I take a big rubbermaid and sit it in my bathtub. Fill the rubbermaid up with warm water. Poor the betadine solution in it and then sit the snake in it close the top and leave them. My snakes are so big I cant just leave them in the tub becuase they jump right out so I have to use a rubbermaid. If your snakes not that big you can just fill your tub up and put it in there.

Also if you go to cvs or your local pharmacy. You can pick up something called zinc oxide and put that on him also.

So the betadine is not harmful if it gets in his nose or mouth?, I'll just fill his big shoebox with solution right in his cage and I'll leave it everyday for half hour. This guy loves to swim in water and that's part of his problem now.

Well my vet is the one that advised me about betadine so im sure if it was harmful to them in any way he wouldnt of told me to soak mine. So to my knowledge its not harmful but dont hold me to that. I can give you his number and you can call him and ask just for reassurance for you. But thats what he advised me to do

betadine or any chemical anti-septic is and can be harmful, if ingested in large amounts. which the chance of a snake doing that is rare. usually if they are dealing with scale rot, they dont wanna do much such as move around, eat or drink, etc. so if they ingest a little its not a huge deal, and most of them will not just sit there, soaking in a tub and drink. they will keep their head up resting on another part of their body, and like the relief of soaking on the ventral scales that are infected

Ok, I got 10% betadine in a 8oz bottle . The directions on the bottle are not very helpful. Do you know the mixing ratio of betadine to water? And can I reuse the solution over and over ?

I didn't see this mentioned yet. Put the snake in clean water first. Snakes like to drink when they are put in to soak. Let him drink (like 10 minutes or so), then put him in his betadine bath.

I have never soaked a snake in betadine, as to the mix, I've been told anywhere from a light brown color, to a dark tea color... but I have rinsed injuries with a dark tea color mixture of water and betadine.
