Re: HR669 Question???
SUPPOSEDLY the pets currently owned will be "grandfathered" and will not be affected. However, the purchase, breeding and selling of any future animals listed on that bill will be strictly forbidden. There are loopholes in the bill as it's currently worded, but I'm sure specifics and so forth will change before anything goes into law. No matter how you look at it, this does not bode well for us at all. I am of the mindset that I want to get at least 2 more Balls and a Rainbow Boa before this law goes into effect.
I'm still curious as to what the government will do should we decide to breed our own snakes and just keep them to ourselves....

Re: HR669 Question???
I see a bunch of loopholes also, and how will they know if you have snakes? How will they know if you have bred them? The time, money, and TAX DOLLARS that will have to go into compiling a database of all exotic petkeepers is just a big waste of time. The only purpose of this bill is to take away our freedoms even more. We are being punished for acts of stupidity on the part of other irrisponsible petkeepers that release thier pets into the wild.

Re: HR669 Question???
The point is not whether you could get away with breeding your own snakes secretly.. it's that to do so will be a FEDERAL crime. If caught(say you sold one, or whatever), you would be charged with a federal crime, and fined, and they take the animals to be destroyed.
And what about the big breeders? They can't secretly breed 100 pythons and distribute the offspring.
Fight it now, fight it hard. If it passes, once the currant pets are gone(dying of old age or accident), they will be gone forever.
