    BP Newbie

Hey, i've recently purchased my first normal BP. i dont know his exact age, i forgot to ask the store where i got him. im guessing hes about 9 months? (but really have no idea). i have him in a 12x30x12 (guessing again lol). cypress mulch with sphagm moss. a zoomed under tank heather with a 50W heat lamp on the hot side. two rock hides i bought from a local pet store and also some cork bark i got to give him a little variety. one of each on the hot side and cold side. a large ceramic water bowl and two pothos plants in the middle. sorry, i dont have any pics yet. anyways onto the questions.

-ive heard about thermostats and was wondering what you guys would recommend.

-i have exoterra stick on thermometre and hydrometre and was wondering about recommended digital ones with probes.

-also what websites/stores are good for reptile supplies. i live outside of the GTA in ontario, canada. so anything inside of canada would be appreciated.

hmm, thats all i really have right now. but im sure that ill think of some more.
    thanks.

Some wonderful thermostats, include reptile basics therms.

Please get a lamp dimmer (most hardware stores have them cheap) for your UTH otherwise it will get much too hot and burn your snake. Get some probe thermometers (stick on thermometers and dials are terribly inaccurate) and put the probes under the cypress. Don't let it get above 95F under the substrate above the UTH.

You use a thermostat to prevent melting the plastic and your snake. People shouldn't ask if they will melt the plastic but rahter worry about melting their snake!

get an ACURITE thermometer/ hygrometer from walmart (12-15 bucks) and yes if you use a UTH good idea to get a thermostat but a dimmer work last untill you can afford one if its out of price range.

If you hook up flexwatt to a good thermostat, that would be a good tub UTH.
An adult could live in a 32q tub easily. Much more of a space saver!

You can look up flexwatt on reptilebasics.com as well. Rich will wire it for you and everything. 3-5 dollars a tape usually.
You might want to invest in some foil tape to attach it to the tub (or preferably the surface your putting the tub on) to hold it in place and transfer heat still. Avoid sticking UTHs to class or tubs, as usually the UTH is ruined and can't be reused in a new enclosure. :]
