Worried about my spider
I feed my spider once a week every monday one hopper mouse. He is aprox 3 months old and he only weighs 140 grams. Is there a problem?

Hopper mice are way too small.. I start hatchlings out on med mice unless they are way small.

give him an adult sized mouse... about 10-15% his body weight, so 14-21 grams. I think hoppers are about 8 grams

I thought you were supposed to feed them a mouse as thick as there body? the hoppers i buy are about that thick, they make a little bulge in him. I guess i should just get a regular mouse next time i feed him.

Then one of two things is going on
1: he's not 140 grams
2: they aren't "hopper" mice.
Hopper mice could curl up in a coke bottle cap. They look like big pieces of popcorn

Re: Worried about my spider
140g is not bad. Lots of folks here recommend feeding every 5 days until he reaches 300grams, then you can go to every 7 days. Love them spiders... great eaters!

I get larger sized hoppers i guess, they have alot of hair and eyes fully open.
I just weighed him with a non digital scale.

That sounds pretty small for a hopper mouse.
Like someone suggested, try feeding every 5 days.

Re: Worried about my spider
I get hoppers at about 13-16 grams.
To the OP, try feeding about 15-19 grams every 5 days. Have you given any thought to switching over to rats? I can get rat fuzzies that range from 19-38 grams. That covers a pretty wide range of feeding needs.
