I left the rat in the tub all day !!!!

My BP hasn't aten in two weeks so I threw a rat pup who just opened her eyes in with him. I honestly forgot about her nbd when I checked on him the rats tail came out from the hide she was sleeping with him! hopefully this won't cause him to off eating longer. He's honestly killing me! He sniffs his food, act intrested and about to strike then gives up. Will it have stressed him out so he'll go off for longer?

    The snake will be fine.

List all your husbandry details, so we can figure out why your snake is not eating..

How long has he been off feed?

Re: I left the rat in the tub all day !!!!

I have him in a clear plastic tub with a hide , water dish and paper towels, cobra UTH. He had two hides but he refused to even go near the other hide so I took it out to give him more room as it's a box a bit smaller then the size of a 10g. When I got him he was off for over a month( ate well befor I got him). He then ate 2 rat pups, one week later a small weening rat. His tubs @ 81 degrees and the hot spot is at 90. I was hoping to get him in a larger tub as soon as he started eating as he was origanally in a 20gL tank and he didn't eat until I moved him to the tub.

I was going to say maybe he's not used to rats, but apparently not. When mine were glued to eating mice and mice only, I tried to get them on rat pups and they slept with the snake. XD

Try pre-scenting the room. This is when you leave the rat in the room for your python to smell. Hopefully this will putyour python in feeding mode for when you put the rat in.

Also, he might not be hungry. Sometimes striking can mean "get out of my face". Is he shedding?

Wierd thing is he took the two pups while he was getting into shed then took the small rat after. He's just an odd one. I'm breeding ASF(one might be pregnant) to see if that will bring him into being a better feeder. Hopefully when i go out tomorrow I'll beable to pick up a scale. He's still thick as he has always been a good size but I just want something to base his size. He's a oct/nov hatch.

present. and wait till late at night when they are active.

    it may work.

you can always tell when they are interested they start breathing rapidly and heavily. then followed by a strike. if they are uninterested after 10 min remove it and wait a week. lkeaving it in there is asking for problems. maybe not today, maybe not tomarrow but they will happen.

Re: I left the rat in the tub all day !!!!

what has worked for me well was downsizing the tubs. my male who was on and off all winter was in 41qt tub. i dropped him to the 28 and hes eating fine now.

removing the other hide wont help anything really. they could care less if they have room to move around. Try smaller tub and see how he reacts that way.
