What exactly IS a 1/8 Suriname BCI?

First off I apologize in advance if this is a repeat question, I know how irritating they can be. Either my search skills suck or it isn't here... Anyway I've seen this trait advertised and was wondering about it. Is it as simple as it sounds? That one of the great-grandparents of the BCI in question was a Suriname BCC or is it something else? What are the benefits to having this trait and is the animal any harder to care for than a normal BCI as I keep hearing some BCCs are?

Again, sorry for the noob questions, I am just set on getting a BCI from an 09 litter and I want to be as educated as possible as to my options. Thanks!

pretty much just think of human genetics/family background. for instance my great grandmother was full italian, married a "normal american guy" with not full known genetic background. anyway, they had kids (my grandmother), they were all 1/2 italian. my grandmother married a german heritage guy. they had kids (my mother), that makes her 1/4 italian. then my mom married my dad (my dad of no italian descent that we know of, so assuming he has none). they had me, so i am 1/8 (or 12.5% italian)

Yeah that is what I figured... Was just wondering what the point was to have such a watered down BCC gene in a BCI line? Does that little bit of genetics help the tail stay redder or what?

I'm not sure other than it maybe shows they are actually paying attention to genetics and record keeping or trying to fully disclose what this snake actually is. Hopefully one of our more expert boa breeders will chime in whether it's something of interest. Are they actually asking more than normal BCI market value due to this 1/8 BCI deal?

The only things I can think of for doing this is that the Suriname genetics brighten up the animal a bit or that there is no reason for it other than a breeder had a few spare animals lying around that year and decided to breed them(the original BCC/BCI great grandparents I mean...).

Re: What exactly IS a 1/8 Suriname BCI?

Some breeders mix the Suriname BCC blood into the Colombian or BCI genetics to "better" them. Some people like their lines pure and it's good business to represent the animals lineage that way. I have a 1/8 Suriname Het Albino female but going down to 1/16 Suriname Albinos is a little nit-picky so I just make sure that whoever buys her offspring knows the mother is 1/8 suriname before they purchase any. Does that help make sense out of it? Some people will charge more for the BCC crosses because they are redder and more intense looking normally. I have a 1/8 suriname hypo that shows a lot of the suri blood in her, I don't ask more for her but it would be bad business in my eyes to sell her without anyone knowing just in case they frown on that type of stuff.

Re: What exactly IS a 1/8 Suriname BCI?

Actually the one I saw in your upcoming breeding pairs was what got me wondering. I was just curious as to the reasoning behind breeding BCC into it. I doubt a 1/16th BCC that is mostly BCI would be any different as far as care and handling from a BCI?

Oof, I love the Suriname look though... Probably should just stick with a BCI first though.

Haha, the 1/16 won't make any difference in care, nor would the 1/8. It's just there so those who are pure locale purists won't be mislead.

Re: What exactly IS a 1/8 Suriname BCI?

Would 1/16th bring out the nice red coloring like it could on the 1/8th or no? I guess I'll just have to see pictures of that litter when your 1/8 Suriname Het x Kahl Albino drops since it could probably just be something some babies get and some don't if any get it at all.
