BP sleeping in water bowl- can PAM be used as preventative?

I know there is another thread similar to but I didn't want to hijack someone else's thread with my question.

My male bp (226g) has taken to sleeping in his water bowl the last few days. He's in a 10gal glass tank, temps are 95 on warm side and 80 on cool side (Temps gathered with digital accurite and temp gun). Humidity is in the 56%-60% range. He has 2 identical hides, and has aspen shavings as bedding. The water bowl is on the warm side (to help with humidity) so I was thinking it might be warmer in the water than his warm hide but I checked with the temp gun and they are about the same water might be 1-2 degrees cool hard to get an accurate read on water with the temp gun.

He's not blue so I don't think he's going into shed. And I checked him for mites and didn't find any. I picked him and his sister up at the Pomona show about 2 months ago and they have both been quarantine. Only he is soaking -she's just been on a hunger strike the last 2 weeks.


The question is: Would using PAM as a preventative measure be harmful if there are no signs of mites? His last shed was perfect and he's feeding regularly.

I use PAM in all my cages once a month no matter what.

I'll also spray around the bases of my cages and in doorways.

Best not to have the little buggers at all!

Just follow the directions on the can, using it as a preventative is always a good idea.

it may just be that he has figured out he feels safer in the water or he is going into a shed and you just havnt caught the signs yet.

you can catch it way early if you know what to look for. usualy you'll see the verticle scales will become a little bit scuffed looking. followed by the belly going a bit pink. at this time you should notice the snake appearing a bit duller then usual. after this you get the blue eyed stage where they go very dull they eyes go a hazy blue/gray or a milky white. after the blue eye stage the eyes go clear again and they shed.

95 seems a little high to me for water and it is usually best to keep the water on the cool side and just spray with a water bottle to boost the humidity.

i do this also not always once a month and i dont always spray in the same places. it also does good for other nastys in the house

oh yea if your temps are 95 it could be just too hot for him which he might be trying to cool himself

one of my rescues did that for over 2 weeks. Checked temps, humidity, for mites and ticks, nothing!!! Finally she shed and hasn't done it again.

95 IMO is way too hot...my hot side never goes over 90.....88-90 is perfect!! 78-82 for the cool side....alot of peoople keep the temps way high like that (95) but I think its too hot. Cool it down to 90 and i bet you will see him come out of the dish.
