ball pythons - why do they have the markings that they have?

I was just kinda thinking and started to wonder, why do ball pythons have such exotic beautiful markings in the first place? what purpose do they serve them in the wild? i am talking about the non-morph original balls that are in the wild.

Well in the wild for normals it serves as camo..but for morphs their paint job is a big OLE bullseye for trappers and predators.

The wild type markings are amazing camoflage when they are not laying on blue carpet or red bedspreads in our homes. The same as rattlesnakes patterns blend in with their environment, ball pythons marking blend into the african landscape as well.
