    Breeding dinkers

Well I have a few dinkers that will be big enough to go this year. Question is:
When trying to prove a dinker, what works best. Breeding them to a normal so you are sure that you can see ones that look like the dinker (IE if it proves dominent its either normals or dinkers) or breeding it to a morph so that if worst comes to worse you atleast have a few non-normals, but then it will be harder to tell if the dinker proves out?

Trying to get a bit of advice from people familiar with dinker projects XD
Ball pythons: 1.2 pastel, 1.0 Black Pastel 1.0 mojave(green) 0.1 spider, 1.0 het pied, 1.0 het clown, 1.1 het albino, 0.1 pos het albino, 1.0 shatter, 0.2 normals, 0.1 reduced pattern, 0.3 dinkers
Corn snakes: 1.0 blood, 0.1 het blood, 0.1 snow, 0.0.1 reverse okeetee
Geckos: 2.1.2 crested gecko, 0.0.1 leopard gecko
    Boas: 1.0.1 sand boas
Other: 1.1 mini australian shepherd, 2.0 cats

    Re: Breeding dinkers

OK time to show some ignorance here.

I am unsure of what a dinker is...

If some one could help me out that would be great...

Man I haven't asked a newb question in months....

I fell kinda silly, I understand it is a morph but what is a description of the pattern?

I breed most of my dinkers to a normal. If I have a dinker that looks like a certain morph (i.e. Yellow Belly), I will breed that dinker to a Yellow Belly.

Dinkers are an unproven project that you are "dinkering around with". Seeing if the genetics will prove out, but not (or at least to me) expecting them to prove out.

They are usually normals with a bit (or lot) of aberrancy to them.

    Re: Breeding dinkers

    Hi,

A dinker is a snake you think you can see something different in that you think might be genetically inheritable.

So it's not really one of the established known morphs.

It can be an unusual pattern, colour - anything really. And of course it can turn out to be dom, co-dom, recessive or completely non-inheritable.

If you do a forum search on dinker you will get to see some really intresting looking snakes.

    Re: Breeding dinkers

k thats a good idea. I have a few that are ready to go this year.
    Girl 1:
(can never get a good pic of this girl. Color actually has a purpleish tint, odd runon pattern, pastel like clear belly with side tracks)

    Girl 2:
(Really nice blushing, bairly any alien heads)

    Boy1:
(was told he looks like a shatter pattern, does have the signs of being one. Has a really different color to him, doesnt match any of my normals. has a almost full dorsel stripe)

    Re: Breeding dinkers

When I am looking through import babies I always look for female dinkers and we usually breed a co-dom combo into them when they are old enough. If they prove out, not only do you get a shot at making a few different combos right off the bat but if you get a male baby, you can breed it back to mom the next year to see if there's a super form. If they don't prove out (which most don't), you still get a worthwhile clutch and another female for future breedings.

You can never go wrong breeding a dinker to a pastel.
