HELP! Feed my snake a big rat

    Here's the situation

My biggiest snake -2 years old, 800 grams, eats whatever I offer her, I just fed her yesterday 2 ASF around 25 grams each, biggiest she has eaten has been a 50 gram adult ASF

This morning I wake up to one of my rats dead, 114 gram rat. Only had the rat for 4 days or so, hasnt been eating or was sick before I got it.

Well now its dead and my snake wont take the rat, I put the rat in the snake tub as soon as I seen it, its been about 4 hours, so I heated it with a blow dryer- failed, then I soaked in hot water-failed. My snakes follows it but wont strike. She just checks it out and watches it. I rolled the rat in ASF bedding also. My snake has never ate a rat before also, but she is a hungry eater and has never gave me a problem switching from mice to ASF and back at all.

Should I freeze the rat and save it for next week? I was thinking of cutting the rats tail off to make it appear smaller, my snake has never eaten a rat so big before.

I wouldn't feed it at all, if it died of unknown causes.

if your rat can eat a 50? why are you feeding two smaller ones?

also if your rat can eat only a 50 why try and force feed something bigger. especially one that randomly died. a 2 dollar rat isnt worth your snakes life

I couldn't agree more with the other posters. I would never feed off a rodent that died of unknown causes.

Toss the dead rat! 1st you don't know why it died. What if it got out and got into some poision do you want to chance giving your snake that? 2nd your snake just ate, you have a snake that is eating don't spoil it over a $2 rat.

I would NEVER feed a critter that died of unknown causes (or one that was obviously ill).

My turtle loves pinkies that don't make it although if it's been dead more then 3 hours I toss them. Dead feeder adults should be thrown out.
    Too many pets to list!
