Quarantine... yes, another thread on it.

I was just thinking about all the quarantine process and what-not and I got to thinking... if I purchase a ball python from say, 8BallPythons or BHB Reptiles, can a 90-day QT be deemed unnecessary? I mean, if those guys had problems, I'm sure they wouldn't ship them out. I usually send my new snake to the vet within a few days of purchase, so any internal stuff, RI, or just general health issues can be taken care of immediately. So, if the vet clears the snake and Adam or Brian guaranteed the snake, then it should be ready for the general population, yes?

Sorry, but I quarentine every snake I get in, from anyone at all, even from those I trust implicitly.
It doesn't hurt anything to quarentine, if nothing else.. what if your general population ended up having something crop up.. then the new snakes would get it too.

From breeders I personally trust (and that is quite honestly damned few) I might QT 30 or 60 days. I think Adam himself would likely tell you that it's best to set down a good QT routine and get used to doing it so it becomes second nature. Do that and you greatly lessen the chances you'll skip a step or the whole process and endanger your collection at some point.

I don't care which breeder I get the animal from.

All animals go through a strict quarantine period and get a full veterinarian checkup.

Colubrids get a 90 day quarantine.
Pythons get a 120 day quarantine.
Boas get a 180 day quarantine.

Re: Quarantine... yes, another thread on it.

I have one point to make here that the OP should consider. what if the snake is shipped healthy and developes RI from shipping?

so i say QT is a must, even ifyou trust the person your getting it from.
