    Re: prego rat

I separate my females after they have been with a male for 3 weeks. She is put into a maternity tub with lots of wood shavings to give birth during her fourth week.

If she is left with the other females and males, she will most likely be bred right after birth, since female rats go into heat immediately after birth.

And there is the chance that the babies are cannibalized or destroyed by the other rats, or the new mother herself.

    Hope that helps ya

    Re: prego rat

I do stuff a little differently, I will leave two females together, usually siblings that have been seperated and raised together for most if not all there life, a male is introduced with the two females for a total of ten to twelve days, usually shoot for twelve before I remove the male and let them finish there pregnancy and raising of pinks together and then they do it all over again in sixty days when the males are rotated back into the tub.
