    Biggiest Meal Ever Given??

In proportion to the snake, what is the biggiest meal ever given? I dont want a world record or anything just what have you fed or heard someone else feed. Live/Frozen/ several feeders in the same day etc.

    Re: Biggiest Meal Ever Given??

Well I would have to say, I have one BP that was eating 4-5 mice a week, so I moved her to rats, she is around 1,000 grams and the biggest I feed her now are rats that are around 150 grams. She eats one of those every 14 days.
every one else has been eating 1-2 mice (or mouse sized rats) a week.

    they all eat live

    Re: Biggiest Meal Ever Given??

Before I started Alice and Charger on rats, I finished off my supply of large mice by giving them two per feeding (approximately 40 g per mouse). At that time, Alice weighed 774 g and Charger weighed 684 g. Charger was in blue and refused. I kind of hated to waste them and wasn't sure they should be refrozen, so I offered the first of Charger's two to Alice. He took it. As soon as he got it down, I stuck the other one in there. My husband thought I was insane and I felt a little guilty afterward because Alice looked like a giant sausage. He had a hard time getting back into his hide. At that time, I was still feeding them weekly, but I made Alice skip the next meal. He did okay, but I will NEVER do that again That was 160 g of mouse meat for 774 g of BP

    Re: Biggiest Meal Ever Given??

Early in my rat and snake keeping I did the following.

The largest I ever fed was a 250g rat to an adult male... I had a breeder female rat pass on me.

He did not move for about 2-3 days and then regurged. It was the nastiest thing I ever had to clean.

The largest I have fed since is around 80... the odd snake can take two 60g, but I really do not like feeding more than that, and that would be to my largest female (3 kg).

    Re: Biggiest Meal Ever Given??

Maybe I'll better explain why I in fact feed that way and why the snake looks the way it does lol. I feed very big every 7-14 days...normally closer to 14 but I feel the snakes tend to grow better this way...NOT power-feeding or unhealthy amounts of food. I only feed F/T as well this way as bigger rats on smaller snakes wouldn't be very safe either. The way I feel it works, because they are fed a big item less often they tend to use more of the food to their body instead of many food items a week as a lot of people do with lots of feces to follow. It also stretches their stomachs to allow more food when they are fed...I know stomachs shrink back a little but they aren't given an unhealthy sized food item...just a big food item. I keep my temps on the high end and don't have any reguritation because of the size of the meal fed. Most of my balls eat like boas and I don't really understand it sometimes! They don't lose much mobility as they still move around just as normal the next day after a meal looking the way they do in the picture. I personally wouldn't recommend just starting to feed your snakes huge items as I've been feeding this way for about 5 years and keeping snakes for many more than that and know my snakes and what they can handle (even as babies). If its too big or they can't eat it...they won't.
