    Cricket Setup?

I am having trouble keeping crickets alive after I get them. I keep them under my bearded dragon tank, its always in the 70's under there and dark. I keep cricket gel and food in 2 shallow bowls, and I keep cardboard eggshells in there also. I only keep about 4 dozen at a time. Any advice would be helpful. (note: I just started keeping the eggshells in there, could them not having a hiding spot cause death?)

Where do you get them from? I suggest ordering online, its around $20 for 1000. If they are for your beardie then I highly suggest online because they easily go through 4 dozen in two days. Check your food, high protein kills. Also if your getting them from petco/petsmart or a baitshop(<<throw them away) they normally do not live long at all out of the store.

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

Well I was having the same problem when I was ordering them a few hundred at a time online. But I didn't know that high protein kills them, thats might be my problem, cause I only feed them "Cricket Feed" which is 20% protein.

What do you suggest feeding them? And where do you keep 1,000 crickets???

    Thanks.

Chicken feed works great. Crickets dont live long anyways, they are horrible feeders IMO and suggest roaches to anyone. Crickets also do better in warmer temps. It seems like crickets would be a great feeder but lots of things stress them out and kill them!

I've heard that roaches are better before. Do you know of a site where I can get some good info about them?

    Re: Cricket Setup?

From personally keeping crickets for a few years, I soon realized keeping crickets it's a chore. The smell, the chirping, ones that get out etc.. But I do know that keeping the egg carton is a must because they will all hide in the same general area and sit on top of one another which obviously kills a lot of them off. I heard the gel isn't very good for lizards either.. I'd love to back that theory up but I just heard it sticks to the crickets legs and gets ingested by the lizard..

For keeping large amounts, I had an extra aquarium and that worked great.

    Cheers

PS: Females are the larger ones with the tails.
