Breathing Question?? Please Help
Hello all, A friend of mine got a BP last week and he stated to me this morning that he heard a sound (like popping) when the snake was breathing. Sounds like some sort of infection (cold) to me. What do you all think it could be and what can be done to stop it? Any information that can be given will be greatly appreciated, Thanks a ton

Re: Breathing Question?? Please Help
I heard the same sound from my bp like a week and a half ago, and I knew she had an RI. More than likely that's what your friend's BP has too.
tell him/her to take the BP to a veterinarian, it will require antibiotics. My BP is on Baytril right now.
Now we need to figure out if the BP already had the RI when your friend got it, like mine did (he was a rescue) or if your friend's husbandy needs to improve. Low temps, too high of humidity or dirty cages lead to RI.
Good luck

Re: Breathing Question?? Please Help
First problem, We do not have any reptile vets in this area, the closest one is about 2 1/2 hours away! Is there anything that we can do for the time being to stop this? Also, he just told me that he is currently in the process of shedding (eyes are glazed over), could this be one of the reasons? All help is greatly appreciated, Thanks.......Almost forgot..He just cleaned and changed everything in the housing, and adjusted the heating and humidity. Please Help!

Re: Breathing Question?? Please Help
If you don't have a reptile specialist vet close by, find a regular vet that will care for reptiles. Sounds like the early stages of an RI. If treated early, it can usually be taken care of without too much trouble. If the RI advances, it can become a life threatening issue.
Call every vet in your phone book until you find one that is willing to look at the snake.
Where do you live?
