assisted shedding

how long should i wait to help my snake off with the last bits of her shed...it seems all she has left is head and neck and then all down her back. ill post a picture or two to get a vantage point.

I left my guy a little while, and then each night I'd give him a little bath, but it was stuck high on his neck which he always seemed to keep out of the water, after a week though I just helped him pull it off and he didn't mind.

humid-hide is the easiest way and they will get it off them self. if not then a moist pillow case with the snake in it works well. let them crawl around in it for 30 min. be sure to use tepid water on the pillow case and that its not sopping wet ring all the excess water you can from it.

do i have to put the pillowcase back in the aquarium
how long do i leave her in there and then after that do i pull it off do i tie the pillow case in a knot..how much room should i leave for her to crawl around

i just set my guy on the floor beside me while he is in the pillow case. i watch tv and watch him. i tie a knot in the top as close to the top as i can to give him maximum crawl space. 30 min should do. maybe 45. they will feel safe as they can see nothing and will crawl around and remove most if not all of the bad shed them selves just from the friction from moving.

use cotton as it breaths well and dont place him on the floor in a cold or drafty room.

tepid means luke warm. as in body temperature it shouldnt feel cold or hot to you it should just feel wet. thats ideal.

and tap water is fine unless yours has something funky in it.

Check out these two threads for a lot of good information and advice. Remember never to pull dry shed off your snake and to always assist it in the least stressful way possible. A lot of shedding problems can be addressed through tightening up on the husbandry issues. As well it's not uncommon to see shedding problems this time of year with the naturally dry winter conditions so you need to be extra vigilent with your snake's enclosure humidity. Learn to watch for the first signs of an impending shed so you can make sure everything is good and perhaps not have to deal with a stuck shed situation as often.

Tepid Water is 82°F to 84°F

Tepid means moderately warm or luke warm. so yes, 82°F to 84° should feel about average to the touch. not hot or cold.
