    Tubs or Tanks?

Ok, so about a month ago i switched my snakes into a small rack system of 41qt tubs. and they work really well and they are easy to clean and keep the temps up and humidity, but every time i show them to someone they say "you keep them in a drawer!?" they think its cruel because its dark and all that. and i know that is not true. but i don't really get it? why isn't it cruel to keep them in a little drawer? what does the snake think about living in a little dark space all its life? i am debating weather or not to go back to the tanks, but i kinda want to stick with tubs because its easier, but the more i here that it is cruel and the more i cant make a good argument for the tubs the more i want to go with tanks. basically what i'm asking is why are tubs not cruel for an animal to live in?

Think about where they choose to live in africa. termite mounds and rodent burrows smaller than the tubs you are using. They are anti-social, nocturnal, and slow, so that means they are never out and about living it up with the rest of africa's wildlife, they prefer the dark cramp hiding spots that the grasslands of africa have to offer Your snakes are completely content in the tubs.

    Re: Tubs or Tanks?

Why don't you ask the snake what he/she wants?
I am just kidding. But in my opinion, tubs are the best. It isn't cruel to house them in something that does a better job of keeping their temps and humidity correct. I get the same reactions from my friends.. "Tubs? Like storage tubs?"

They probably think its cruel because they don't know much about snakes. To me, it is the obvious choice!

You need to do what's best for your snakes, and stop worrying about what your uninformed friends think....or do what you think is best, either direction, make your own decision based on what you know is right.

Tubs are like the previous posters stated more like, if not better than what they would live in out in the wild...We tend to anthromophosize the snake (I still do it on occasion)...Granted I would be lying to say that I don't have mine in RBI cages right now...But once I get them to breeding weights/age and hopefully some clutches are laid/hatched, the rest will be going into tubs...

    Re: Tubs or Tanks?

It's all about the type of housing the snake does best in. Being the way they are, as was said, BPs like smaller, darker enclosures than most other species. Whereas there are exceptions (quite a few of my snakes prefer the head room of the tanks and the 12" tall tubs I use in my rack), most BPs like the 'cozyness' of the basic tub.

Because I spoil my snakes (), I give them the largest enclosures I can...and that includes tubs. But, when I find that someone doesn't like that room I give them the lower, smaller space.
