    BP was bit / rant

I'm on my last day of a 3 week vacation in Florida, while out to dinner my ex GF texts me (she was supposed to come to my house to take care of my BP) today she was supposed to feed my BP... She wasn't paying attention and the mouse bit him, no blood, just a bite... Probably no issue but still shouldn't have happened, now when I get home I hope there isn't even a scar... I'm all worked up and upset, should I worry so much if he didn't even bleed ??? My little guy refuses fresh killed and F/T, so live is the only option... What's your take on this people ???

Little bit of good news, my uncle gave me a beautiful hardy 3.5' cornsnake that he's had since it was 18"... Coming back to NY with me, pretty docile but still does the S shape when I reach into his holding tub to get him, hasn't stuck yet tho, but eats 4 hoppers at a time every 2 weeks, he's nice, big, and lean with amazing colors and pattern, so that's a bit of good news

Id be upset too, but I guess you only have yourself to be mad at for leaving it up to an X GF!! Find someone that will care for your bp like you would, to watch it next time. As long as the mouse didnt bite an eye, Im sure your snake will be fine, a rat bite would be more severe so be happy your feeding mice!!!

Congrats on the corn! I havent had any experience owning one but I have always liked the reds and oranges they come in!

    Good luck with your snakes!!!

Just because she used to be his gf doesn't mean they aren't friends or anything. Breakups aren't necessarily a bad thing

I hope it works out for your snake. I guess just have her put Neosporin and check the wound aside that theres nothing you can do. Maybe have her take a picture?

Well we are still on very good terms, and she LOVES all my animals, she was with me when I got most of them, and she went to school for small animal care, so I thought I was safe but I guess not, she didn't do it on purpose just carelessness... But I didn't want to go on vacation for just this reason

Re: BP was bit / rant

I'm getting home tomorrow at midnight so I'll just wait till then for neosporin (w/o pain reliever) I got lucky it was a mouse too cuz I usually feed rat pups but the store was out and only had mice, and when I get back I was planning on switching to small rats... So I guess it could have been worse... But if he didn't bleed and it bit after he coiled it can't be that bad but I'm still a worry wart, but only cuz I care about my baby dinosaurs... What's the point of dedicating so much time, money, and space unless I'm dedicated to the heart... I mean heck, I pass 3 pet shops and that sell mice/rats/crix and go 5 miles just to go to a herp shop that i know the owner and has a contract with the breeder just so I know for sure they aren't lab rats

One of my snakes was bitten by a small rat yesterday. I was standing right there. There is absolutely NOTHING I could have done to prevent it. It happens. Don't blame the gf/x gf for something she may not have been able to prevent. Its nature. If there is an open wound just treat it with neosporin (w/o pain reliever) and your snake should be fine.

And that is the very reason that I will not leave home for more than 10 days, I am in Orlando now and I fed my snakes b4 I left. How is your little guy doing?

A mouse bite with no blood is probably something you're going to have a very hard time finding on your snake if you don't know exactly where it was bitten.

Sounds more like a "non-event" to me. I feed live every week to all my crew, in fact, I've always fed live, going on four years now.

They're very adept at dispatching their prey and their scales are part of their protection.

I'm sure your snake is fine.

Re: BP was bit / rant

I agree with Robin, it doesn't sound like a big deal really other than it's upset you. These things can happen and the snakes aren't made of spun glass and usually do very well. Locate the bite area (if you can), make sure it's clean and tended to then just keep an eye on it for any signs of swelling/infection. If you are concerned that it's an open wound (a bit unlikely from a tiny, single mouse bite) and you use loose bedding you could put your snake on paper towel until it heals.
