    Post I have a question!

I'm the new owner of a ball python named Piton. I got him from my science teacher. The snake has lumps going along his spine. It kind of looks like his spine is too big. My teacher says that he has some kind of bone disease that he thinks came from a lack of calcium. Does anyone know what the name of this "disease" may be and is there any way to treat it? Thanks for the help!

Well, I actually think it may be a spinal injury or kinking.

Welcome to BP.net. Some pics might help us diagnose the problem, but sounds like your best course of action is to take him to a vet.

I have to ask, how did your science teacher come by this BP, and how long has your teacher had it?

First of all, thank you for the welcome. I don't have any pics right now, but I will get some posted ASAP. I'm not sure how he came by it or even how long he's had it. I know that its not full grown. Its only about 2 feet long. Does that help with possibly guessing age? I'm totally new to all this, so I have no clue.

First of all, thank you for the welcome. I will get some pics up as soon as possible. I'm actually not sure how my science teacher came across him or even how long he's had him. If I'm not mistaken though, I believe he got him from a friend of his. Again, I'm not sure. I do know that he's not full grown yet, and he's had this "disease" for as long as my teacher's had him.

Guessing a BP's age is just that, a guess. They all grow at different rates that depend on a lot of factors. Bottom line, there's no reliable way to guess it's age.

I don't think it would be caused by a lack of calcium because they get all the calcium they need from the mice/rats. They do not require additional supplements. Post some pics as soon as you get a chance and I would also recommend scheduling a vet appointment ASAP.
