Having troubles keeping right temps in tank

Help please !!!
I have having a hard time keeping the temp in my BP tank in the high 80s. I have a red heat light on one side ( his hide side) I keep a heat light over his water bowl{ 60 watt} on the other side of his 40 gallon glass tank( this helps keep the humidity about 50%. I have a UTH in the middle of the tank. During the day the temps average about high 70s. This is the same temp that I get at night. What am I doing wrong ????????
Any suggestions would help, Im getting worried about the low temps

First give us a more detailed description...

Size/age snake, how you're controlling temps, what you're measuring them with (analog/digital), what substrate you're using, dimensions of cage (40 gal can take many different forms), if you're insulating the cage at all, etc.

well what is the temp of the room that your snake is in?? that could be affecting it. I always keep a towel over the top and a small thin blanket over half to make sure it stays around 80. how big is the heat pad that you have in the middle of the tank?? it should be at least 1/3 of the bottom and if it's too small then that could have something to do with it too. other than that I don't know. High 70s is still okay...as long as it doesn't go below 75

Just to say you need at least 2 hides one on hot and one on cold side. The water bowl should be in the middle so he/she doesn't have to chose water and heat.

The snake is about 4' long, I have a digital and I use cocunut substrate.The tank is 3' long by 2' wide. Im not insulating the tank, how would I go about that ?

Does your digital thermometer have a probe?
You can get some foam core board from the drug store, cut it to size and cover the back and sizes of your tank.

Reflectix also works really well... You can put that on the outside of the foam board.

My digital therm. does not have a probe. I will get some of that foam core board tomorrow.
I heard that tin foil wrapped around the back and sides also works, how do you feel about using that? Is the foam better?

That might be your problem right there. Go get a thermometer that has a probe so you can get a direct reading of the glass temperature on the hot side. You might find that your hot side temps are high enough.

I would use the foam, tin foil might get a little messy on the sides. You could put the foil on the outside and then cover it with the foam board though.
