I used the hovabator as it was and had zero problems for both corn snake eggs and ball python eggs.Let us know how things go

Yeah, the majority of people who have had smaller clutches and used hovabators generally haven't had any problem with them. I have known some who take the wafer out and utilize them in larger foam (and plastic) coolers with no ill-effects. I have heard you may have more humidity problems with the hovabator though. Hope that helps. I lucked out when i moved into my new house this year on campus because the guy that had my room gave me a nice 3ft mini-fridge and I already had excess heat tape and therms.

I have several hovabaters and they work great. I never thought about adding a helix though. Might be a good idea. The problem with the hovabater is all the Off/On Off/On Off/On stuff. If you use lots of hatching medium it will hold a more constant temp. Also if you have room toss in a big brick to give it some density which will also hold a more constant temp.
Big apple sells a new temp controll device like the helix for a little over 30 bucks. Im going to buy a couple of them for my big incubator im working on.
