Breeder Loaning

So, I've been digging around in old threads and came across this "breeder loaning" idea from which I thought of a few questions for the fine breeding experts at BP.net!

Can you breed multiple males to one female, or can she only have one mate? I know you can breed multiple females to one male (at least that's the conclusion I've drawn from some conversations).

At what age/weight/girth/what-have-you would you say a snake is at an appropriate breeding status?

And finally, I'd like to breed my 100% het albino male when he is ready to be bred and am in Central MA (south of Worcester, right on CT/MA line). I'm curious as to whether or not there was anyone interested in possibly doing a breeding loan situation with him? (Breeders north of Providence, in Worcester area or within reasonable driving distance, and in Northern CT?)

I know about the contract and such things like that and will continue to read up on it. But, to get a better understanding of the breeding process, answers to the questions would be greatly appreciated, as I might start my own breeding projects once I expand my collection :]

EDIT:: Almost forgot this little question - For those who have DIY incubators or know someone who does, how many average sized BP eggs do you think a DIY refrigerator incubator would be able to hold? Let's just assume they are 6 quart tubs.

I apologize for the double post but my account is acting funny. It seems its been lagging a bit and I've recieved an answer to the male-female question (the first question). And though I saw in the FAQ that males can be bred at 500 but best at 800, I was more looking for opinions on what you guys deem an appropriate breeding size.

Most people looking for a breeding loan would probably already have something like what you are offering, and to be very honest with you, most people don't waste time breeding het to normal in a breeding loan.

They all come out looking normal, and unless there is a fair number of females, AND you can guarantee your male isn't a NORMAL, its a huge crap shoot.

Most people do co-dom or visual to normal to at least have something to show for the breeding.

I'm not shooting you down at all, and I wish you luck in your search.

Even with paper understand that most people are not gonna loan a female in the hope of getting possible het albino especially when 100% het albino are so affordable. (not many people want to prove out possible hets)

Now if you had a female het albino and were doing a breeder loan with someone who has an albino male that would be another story.

Deborah basically said it in the fact that if someone has enough money invested in a het female then another hundred bucks on a het male really isnt a big deal to them. And then as Heather stated that breeding him to a normal male is somewhat of a crap shoot if your trying to get possible hets and then eventually prove them out that way.

But the point is, I have an Albino female... But if I have spent $XXX for that Albino female, why would I use it on a Het Male that is worth $x???

I'd go out and already have an Albino Male.

That is the point we are trying to make.

YOU should go out and get an Albino female if you want to breed your het male. Or get a Het female.

You will more than likely NOT find anyone that isn't a REALLY GOOD FRIEND who will take in your het male to breed their visual female.

It isn't about the genetics, it is about the money factor.

I got a het albino male this year in a trade. As an extra. They were going to sell him for 70.0 but threw him in as an incentive.

But to get a female could cost me 700.00 to 1200.00 (depending). So that is the point being made.

If I buy an albino female and spend the time, and invest the money in raising her up to breeding weight, at some point I will invest in either an albino or a het male for next to nothing (in comparison).

And to do a loan for a het male is not a fair trade. A 50/50 split of the babies, means the person that invested 70.0$ would come out with an AMAZING profit, and the person that invested 3 years and over a grand would come out with the same deal.

The person would just invest their own 70.0$ (or less) and double their profit.

Make sense?
