lighting heat at night

at nite i wanna use a inferred buld so i still can see my snakes move around which they do everynight. what kinda bulb should i get

I just got a red heat bulb the other day. They say that it does not disturb the snake's normal nocturnal behaviors. Also, it is very easy on my eyes too, and makes it really easy to see the snake moving around at night. I turn it off at night too because it is a heat light, and I like lowering the temp a few degrees at night, then turn it on in the morning and leave it on all day.

I would buy one that is designed for reptiles (got mine for around 10, this for a red heat light).

Also, you have to watch the humidity because my heat lamp is lowing it about 10%.

Was having the humidity problem too. Went from using this dirt looking stuff to douglas fir bark and now his humidity is always around 50-55%. Placing a hot towel on top of the cage helps out a lot.

Do you measure your temps to make sure it's not too hot during the day, or cool at night? I suppose you have a UTH & bulb?

Yes. Bulbs definitely dry out the air.

Yeah i have both a UTH and the bulb. The bulb is a 75watt, and I have a thermometer inside the cage and I use a tempgun thermometer to measure the temp. Also, I have a thermostat that I keep at about 93-95 with an inch of cypress substrate. Everything stays around 90-92 on the warm side. At night with the light off, I crank my thermostat to about 98 and the hot side stays around 88.

This is the exact bulb I use, other than I have a 75 watt.

at night with the red heat lamp on the heat is around 80 and 82-85 directly underneath it. i use a 75 watt at night and at 100watt basking bulb durning the day. Day time temps in the hot spot run about 85 to 90 and about 92-95 in the directly underneath the light. i just a infrerred tempgauge to get all my temps right and make sure my temp gauges are reading right. ill have pics up too but ill take a few to show you my unfinished setup. let me know what you what you think

Man I just use black lights. 6 dollars for 2, 60w each. Works well, they're more for lighting than heating, though. To count the times having those has saved me from an escape.

I have blue LED lights that emulate moonlight in my vivs, low power use and you don't have to worry about them stucking humidity, and as they don't give off heat, you dont have to have another guard in the enclosure taking up room
