I hope it works, I ran into to many problems with paper towels and news paper. They both Absorb NOTHING!

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

I use Harlan Shredded Aspen, not a big fan of those larger chunks.
Ive tried unprinted newspaper and that only lasted about a month, I prefer aspen.

If I could find cheap Shredded aspen id use it, but the only time Ive seen it was at a show in another state. I used this stuff for a while when I first got lesser and never had any problems with it, but im guessing the finer shred it is the more absorbent and less pokey it comes.

Does aspen help control the odor?
I'm using the green carpet and the smell is horrible. I was going to switch to newsprint so I could swap it out quickly but if it doesn't absorb well...
Does the aspen mess up the humidity? I keep wet sp. moss in the tank now and would continue with any new stuff.
Thanks.

Re: Switched to Aspen
I had been using newspaper for about 4 months and I finally got rid of it and went to aspen. I feel like it helps hold the heat a bit more and keeps it cozier which the snakes like. My bps burrow into the aspen a bit and almost create a nest.
But above all, it definitely helps with the odor compared to the newspaper. When they were on the paper, if they passed a urate or pooped, I noticed immediately and had to clean it that second! At least now it doesn't fill my room with those smells thanks to the aspen. Now its just some spot cleaning and I clean everything every 2 weeks. With the newspaper, I was cleaning out the tubs like every 5 days or so because they pee soo much!
Sorry, I feel like I'm rambling... a headache is my excuse...

Re: Switched to Aspen
I had been using aspen like that for a while and recently switched to shredded aspen and am much happier with it. It seems to help with humidity more than the chips and I think it's also better to feed on as I have had snakes almost take down some nasty wood chunks with their food. With the shredded aspen I don't worry about that, plus I just like the aesthetic of it more. If you can't find it locally I would think you could get it from most any large online reptile supply place. It doesn't weigh that much so I don't think shipping would be outrageous.

Re: Switched to Aspen
I have that same type of aspen. I don't like it because of it's shredding type.
I like the softer, more compact thin shredded stuff.. but I can't find it in bulk. :[

Re: Switched to Aspen
I recently switched back to aspen too, I use the shredded stuff though because I think it's more absorbent and holds moisture better. I love paper, because everything stays so clean but I get so sick of fighting with humidity problems every winter. I'll probably switch back to paper next summer but for the wintertime aspen does seem to work better for me.
