I walk out my front door and I find THIS guy!

He musta heard me playing my "Bloodbath" CD. I knew predators dug death metal! Funny thing is, I live in the city and not really anywhere near any place you'd normally find these guys.

Then he flew away into the tree.

Looks like a broadwing or a cooper's. Beautiful bird! Raptors are very opportunistic hunters, and many times they're among us and we don't even know it, even in the city.

I live in Boston and the other day I happened to look out my front window and saw of hawk of some kind perched up on the roof of a building across the street.

As you said, thats not a very common sight in a city but its still very cool when it happens.

    That's either a Cooper's or a Sharp-shinned hawk.

Before you moved into beautiful downtown Reseda that valley was FULL of raptors.

There are even peregrins established on the highrises in Westwood.

If you're lucky you may even see an eagle over Granada Hills way or further west towards Simi.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

I live in Houston, and there's a huge mall in the middle of town called the Galleria, and I saw two Peregrins fly right over. They breed downtown and I've seen one in the suburbs too. I've seen falcons and hawks (many species), Osprey, and even Bald Eagle within the city limit.

    copied from here: http://webs.calumet.purdue.edu/athle...on-fact-sheet/

During the last 10 years, peregrine falcons continue to recover from near extinction in the United States, specifically in East Chicago, Gary, Chesterton, Burns Harbor, and various sites in Chicago.
Ispat-Inland Steel, U.S. Steel, the Bailly Power Plant, Bethlehem Steel, and bridges and overpasses along Cline Avenue in East Chicago are nesting homes for the peregrine.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has recorded at least 87 newborn peregrines to have survived and left the nest from 1989-2003.
Steel grated ledges and stairways that wrap around mill smokestacks and the concrete and iron edges of skyscrapers are comparable nesting spots within city confines for the adaptable peregrine.

we have had many jobs shut down because nests are found on jobs and in machines at the steel mills

That would be an immature Coopers Hawk. What do I win?
