Exclamation New Thermo/Hygro with Probe $12!!!

I got this at WalMart for about $12 this morning...has a probe for the other end of the tank, and also is a hygrometer...only problem is I cant get the cool end of the tank up much higher than this!?!? Since this picture, it is holding steady at 78.9 right now...is that okay for the low end??

Advise on the low end temp?
    Thanks,

Re: New Thermo/Hygro with Probe $12!!!

I think the low temp is okay...

I have a question about the thermometer though...

Is it waterproof? The "box" where the probe comes out of I mean; I have a Taylor that broke because I think it wasn't waterproof. The screen would fog after I misted the cage and that was when I need to know the humidity.

Re: New Thermo/Hygro with Probe $12!!!

Despite what most of the rest of the community will probably tell you, most of my cool temps range from about 75-82 depending on how chilly it is outside. However, I will say my bp has been off feed for over 2 months now. However, we also have corns and boas at low side temps almost identical, and they all eat just fine.

Depending on the type of enclosure, you may be able to add another UTH to the cold side and control it with a dimmer.

And FYI, no, the Acurites are not waterproof. Sometimes they can withstand a very gentle misting, but overall, you should try to avoid it.

That's the thermometer/hygrometer that we recommend to new people to pick up at Walmart. Many of us have used or do use that same unit!

Could you tell me if they're waterproof?

Awesome! I thought I had seen it lurking in the corner in some other ppls photos...thought it was a great buy for only $12! It is working great and I am pleased with the purchase...and it's nice to know there are others that use it and it is recommended!

    I have a 20 gal long...set up like this...
    -Snake/Reptile turf...LOVE IT
-Her hide...I know I should have one on the cool side but she hides in the branch and leaves when she wants a hide on that end and she loves it..
-Small heat lamp on cool end because of cold Indiana winters...
-Larger on the hot end...with a UTH...
-Damp towel in the middle really helps maintain humidity, again cold Indiana winter=running gas heat=drying out the air big time...
---I have my Thermo/Hygro on the cool end sitting behind the water bowl...there is a little built in stand thingy...the sensor cord is 10ft. long so I have taped the majority of it flat under the turf and ran the rest behind the hide and it sticks to the inside front on the hot end...
A nice branch with some artificial foliage on it, and her water bowl.
THE PICTURE IS NOT TO SCALE...(got bored at work)

I mist in towards the middle of the cage...has been up to 70% (she is shedding) and I achieved that % without getting near the Thermo/Hygro at all with the water!!!! Therefore you shouldn't have to worry about the unit getting too wet to function/display....Hope this helps...
