I'm thinking 3.9 for a small breeding project...
I am trying to put together the proper equipment for a small breeding project, and I am almost done figuring out what that will cost, the one thing remaining is settling on a male to female ratio and types, etc.
(I will most likely acquire these and grow them for next season)
I am thinking about 3 males and 9 females; which would be a 1.3 ratio for breeding.
Possible males I am considering are:
- 1 pastel
- 1 spider
- 1 yellow belly
Possible females I am considering are:
- 6 normals
- 1 spider
- 1 yellow belly
- 1 Mojave-Spider Ball
If you are better than me at planning or choosing which stock to breed, I am open to hear your opinions on what I should change or alter.
Thanks,
Brandon

Hey brandon, i would say a male mojo is a good idea its a codom trait and you would be able to breed it to some of your normal females and get some mojos out of it. Plus you could also breed 1.1 mojo and get a super out of it. Just some ideas hope this helps

If you are looking for more variety with the babies instead of a male spider since you want a female spider get a male mojave or lesser. You could breed him with the female mohave spider and possible get some blue eyed lucys. Since spider is co dom you only need one and if you have the female spider then the male isnt neccasary for more spiders. It depends what you want to breed first.
The 2 yellow bellys are a good choice then you can get ivorys. Get more codom males to pair with the normal females, like cinnamons or black pastels, Another idea is get one less normal female and get a pastel female then you can get super pastels, then keep a super offspring male and breed that to your female spider and get all bees and pastels in a clutch no normals.

Re: I'm thinking 3.9 for a small breeding project...
Depending on what you "plan" to make I could see this going in different directions. I would be inclined to replace the Female spider with a Female Pastel since spider to spider breeding makes spiders, but Pastel to pastel breeding can make a super pastel. Another thing to consider is cutting back to 3.6, but making the 6 normals 2 Pastels. May cost a little more up front, but breeding results will look better. The main reason we got normals was they can be bought at breeder weights relatively cheaply, which helps give us a years experience before our morph and recessive het girls make weight.

Re: I'm thinking 3.9 for a small breeding project...
I don't really know how else to answer you than to give you my own personal plans for what I want to produce for my personal collection in the next decade or so So here goes, brace yourself, grab a cup of coffee maybe.
Wanted:
0.4 Pastel
0.1 Mojo
1.1 Albino
1.1 Pinstripe
1.1 Lesser
1.1 Spider
1.2 Cinny
0.6 Reduced Normals
Will then be able to pair (including snakes I already have):
Albi x Albi (for albi's and hets)
Albi x Normal (for hets)
Pinny x Pastel (for pins, pastels, and hopefully..well, you know. I don't wanna jinx it )
Pinny x Normal (for more pinnys)
Lesser x Lesser ( )
Lesser x Spider ( )
Lesser x Normal (for more lessers)
Spider x Pinstripe (omnomnom)
Spider x Pastel (beeeeees)
Spider x Normal (more spiders)
Cinny x Cinny (hopefully a super)
Cinny x Pastel (Pewters are gorgeous!)
Cinny x Normal
Mojo x Mojo ( )
Mojo x Pastel (Pastaves are sexy, admit it)
Mojo x Normal (because I can't have enough Mojos)
Pastel x Pastel (I really want a super!!)
Pastel x Spider (more beeees)
Pastel x Cinny (more pewters!)
And of course my current 50% Poss het Albi x 50% Poss Het Albi
Sorry!!! Really long list, but that's what I hope to achieve within the next ten-15 years lol. It's a pretty basic list of pretty morphs that are affordable on a low budget, but produce even more pretty snakes Eventually that would lead me to try to make albino spiders and stuffs too. But yea. It really, ultimately, depends on what YOU want to produce and want to have in your collection. I would personally switch out your male spider for a male mojave, and get a regular female mojave and go for BEL's. And I would, again personally, switch the yellowbellys for Cinny's, maybe a male and two female cinny's. Especially since you have a male pastel on that list, if you had two female cinny's you could breed one to the male cinny and one to the pastel, and get super cinny's and pewters. And a female pastel to breed to your male pastel. But, like we've all said, it depends on what you ultimately want to achieve
Ball Pythons:
1.0 Queenbee; 1.0 Spider; 1.0 Spider Het VPI Axanthic
1.0 Albino Cinny; 1.0 Albino Pin; 1.0 Butter Pastel
0.1 Het Axanthic; 0.2 Albino; 0.1 Pied
0.1 Pastave; 0.1 Pastel; 0.1 Butter
0.1 Super Vanilla Mojave
Others:
1.0 Kahl Albino BCI
1.0 Albino Anaconda Hognose
Mammals:
4.0 Kitties, 3.1 Doggos, 0.2 Horses

Re: I'm thinking 3.9 for a small breeding project...
Don't breed it unless you love it. No one can tell you what to breed and even the best laid plans tend to go awry when you are starting out. Start small and work out the kinks, then expand your plans, But ultimately, the morph shouldn't matter as long as it's one that YOU think rocks.
Cheers,
Kat

Good advice. I suppose its akin to planning a trip; they never really go as planned, so be prepared to adjust and be flexible.
