    Sizing Radiant Heat Panels

I have a 48"L x 18"D x 20" H enclosure on order from Animal Plastics for my Ball Python. I want to use a RHP as the source of heat. I have been researching and feel that Reptile Basics offers a quality RHP.

My question is: Is the 40 watt unit that they offer sufficient for heating this enclosure? I do not plan on using any other heating methods (UTH, heat cable, etc). The enclosure is going to be in a very climate controlled room where the temperature is a steady 70 degrees.

    Thanks,
    Lou

    Re: Sizing Radiant Heat Panels

The FAQ section of the Reptile Basics site tells what size of enclosure can be heated by each size panel.

I'm not sure how I missed that before, but that pretty much answers my question. Looks like the 80 watt is the way to go.

    Thanks!

    Re: Sizing Radiant Heat Panels

I agree that the 80 watt will be the size you want based solely on the dimensions of the cage you listed.

Other considerations would be the environmental temps of where you live and the room temps where the snake cage will live.

To be certain you are ordering the correct size, I would suggest you email Rich and run it by him

    Re: Sizing Radiant Heat Panels

I just ordered 2 RHPs from rich at RBI and he was really helpful with picking the right sizes.

My cages are 3/4" birch and my ambient room temp gets as low as 68.
One is 3x2x1 the other is 4x2x1.5 Rich recomended a 40w for the smaller cage and an 80 for the other.
    Thanks!
