good substrate

So I have been using papertowels and newspaper as my substrate. But I have been thinking lately about how comfortable can this realy be. So I decided that I am going to pick us some kind of substrate. I have heard that some substrates are toxic though, and I would like everybodys opinion on what would be a good one to go with. I still plan on using newspaper but just under the substrate. Thanks in advance

I use Aspen for my sand boa and my hoggie and paper towels for my rtb and bp.

Aspen is non-toxic. You can also try cypress mulch, it holds humidity really well.

I keep all my bps in a racking system as well, but I layed awake thinking lastnite that they would probaly feel more comfartable in a substrate that they can kind of burrow themselves in, and you would think that it would help hold their heat as well

thats true, I hate papertowels. I tried yesterdays news and feline pine or the same reason your looking. Feline pine desintigrated when it got wet and feline pine showed mold in 3 days so it was out

aspen is generally regarded as the best as far as wood substrates go. Although to be honest with you, I recently switched to a paper substrate and it is so much easier to tell when they pee and much easier to throw out. Aspen tends to get all over the place and is generally annoying. I haven't a noticed a change in behavior either, if you are concerned with comfort of your balls.
