As the title states just wanted to do a little review on here of a humidifier I've been trying out in my reptile room. For a list of pros/cons in short form just skip to the bottom. I'm using the Hunter Carefree 4.0g Humidifier and it's been working great. Living in the desert which is dry enough and having to run my furnace to keep the house warm my humidity was definitely suffering a bit in the herp room. Picked this guy up at Lowes for $79 to see how it would work. It's a nice unit with variable fan speeds, a digital hygrometer display and the ability to set a specific target humidity in the room. It's designed for "large" rooms and has no problem keeping my room, which is a full size 2 car garage which has been finished nice and humid even when the heat runs. I'll put up some pics later but since installing it my ambient humidity in the enclosures has never dropped below 50%. Before installation, I would have periods of it dropping to almost 30% and had to combat it by warm water misting at least 3 times/ day to keep things in check. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to up the humidity at what I would consider a reasonable price.. now for the short list...
Pros:
Works well-raised ambient humidity in room by 20%
Digital display for monitoring/setting the unit
Easy to use functions/controls
Looks good and has cool LED night lite on tank (ok, I know this isn't sooo important)
Only need to refill tank approx. every 24 hours even with continuous running.
Has auto feature and will cycle on off.
Cons:
Fan has to be turned up to higher setting and can be a bit noisy when running but is tolerable.
In auto mode seems to cycle quite a bit. (I just set a constant fan speed now and it's fine.)
So in review, the product works as advertised and I feel the list of pros outweighs any downfalls the unit has. I would again recommend in as it's working out great for me and give it a![]()
