I always have tons of live food running around. I love watching my girl "hunt" down a big mouse or a little rat.

    Re: Pre killed or live?

After feeding my snakes for 4 years all live prey I recently switched to pre-killed and am happy with the transition. It is definitely easier and more convenient to have the rodents simply stored in the freezer. Of course my friends want to see the live take down, but since ive taken on some bigger snakes its probably best to get them used to a calmer feeding response with free killed prey. Just my 2 cents

    Re: Pre killed or live?

I tried f/t for a while when I only had around twenty ball pythons or so, and was throwing away too many each week. After a while I decided to switch them to live and have a much better feeding response. Another nice thing about feeding live is that if they don't eat I can just put the rat back in its bin until next week.

Used to feed F/T when I had less than 10 snakes now with 40+ I feed live.

One snake eats live mice and all the rest eat f/t rats

    Re: Pre killed or live?

I've never fed pre-killed or f/t, only live to my ball pythons.

My king get f/t mouse fuzzies, and will likely just stay on f/t, since it's just a matter of laying the defrosted/warmed up prey in his tub and he eats it. No zombie dances required.

    Re: Pre killed or live?

General rule of thumb... small collections are easier with f/t. Bigger collections are easier with live.

There are definately exceptions to this rule, but this is what I believe.

    Re: Pre killed or live?

I have 16 to feed and they're all different. 7 are on FT and one (the MBK) only wants live fuzzies. The rest take fresh pre-kills.

Of course, tis the season and I have two or three snakes that just will not eat right now. Strangely, one is a corn but he hasn't lost so much weight that I would worry yet.

Basically, I feed my snakes whatever they want to eat.
